Whitehorse - I'm On Fire

We've been wanting to post this for you for some time, and have been sorting out the logistics of the post with Six Shooter Records for the last week and a bit (thanks Emily). We've been talking about it to our contemporaries at nauseum, and we are very proud to finely deliver. Whitehorse is the duet of Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, both accomplished solo artists in their own respects, both having been recognized by the Juno Awards (Canadian Grammy's), the Polaris Music Prize, and the Independent Music Awards respectively. This essentially makes them a super-group, but doing away with all the unrealistic expectations associated to such. All we know for sure is that we love what they're doing, and think you will too. Now normally we like to post original material from the band or person we're highlighting but we think their cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" is something special. Firstly, covering Springsteen is not something to take lightly, as equaling or bettering him is not likely going to happen and the inferior cover will only invite negative comparisons. That being said, Whitehorse manage to, at the very least, equal the original every way...and dare we say that the duet between Luke and Melissa provide a beautiful aspect to the song not present in the original. They are touring right now, however they are not coming anywhere near us on the west coast, and for that we are sad. However, if you're in New York City, they are playing tonight at the Rockwood Music Hall. Their inaugural self titled release is available now on iTunes, or wherever good music is sold.
