If you absolutely, positively must transport your family at speeds that would scare a teenage boy, then the 2014 Audi RS4 is the car for you. How 'bout a 560 horsepower, twin turbo V8 that pushes your brood and the dog from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Unfortunately for us, North America is nixed from the distribution list, so enjoy rest of the world.
Not everyone can afford such a beast of a wagon! Plus a V8 is hardly a practical choice given the price of gas. Sure if you had money to burn (literally!) it would be a treat. I went with the 2013 Volkswagen Golf TDI Wagon (aka the Jetta Sportwagen in the USA). It won't give you whiplash but it's zippy with 236 ftlbs of torque, averages 725 km per 55 litre tank (I've had it up to 850 kms) and the Highline Edition has every creature comfort you need, including a GIANT sunroof that's 53 inches long! Essentially it's the Audi A3 wagon but about $7000 cheaper! (At least that's the case here in Canada!). I've had it for nearly a year and enjoy driving the 6 speed manual transmission while the stereo plays, the sun shines through the giant sunroof and this time of year the heated leather seats keeping us toasty warm.

ReplyDeleteThe four-wheeled drive turbocharged street car, rally car and rakish planned roadster, stole the show and demonstrated that Audi with the new Quattro truly had made 'Vorsprung Durch Technik' a huge progression through innovation.
