Biome by Samuel Wilkinson

This, we thinks, is a thoughtful, good intentioned and well formulated concept, and we really hope that it gets produced as we would love to have one in our home. It is a terrarium, or biosphere if you will, that you can control the climate, water level and nutrients through your tablet computer or smartphone. That's very cool in of itself, but what we like, especially because of how much time we spend connected, is the designers ethos behind the project. "The idea promotes ‘digital downtime’ by finding an alternative use for smartphones and encouraging their owners to consider a slower life. The control and nurturing of a real mini eco-system takes patience and care, contrasting with the immediacy of messaging or tweeting that is so characteristic of the smartphone generation."
