Black Star is back! Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and Talib Kweli have finally returned and delivered to the masses what is sure to be another hip-hop classic. For the uninitiated, Black Star's first and previously only album, plainly titled "Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star" is widely considered to be one of the greatest rap albums ever, in the realm of Jay-Z's "The Blueprint," Nas' "Illmatic", and Public Enemy's "It Takes A Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back." What make Black Star's rise so special was the timing of the release, that being a rap community divided after the deaths of Biggie and Tupac. Black Star attempted to heal and bring reconciliation in the wake of all the violence which was a risky decision at the time considering the popularity of the gangsta tales. In addition to their timing, Mos Def and Talib Kweili have proven to have a musical sensibility and flow that transcends hip-hop, and can simply be defined as important and beautiful music.
