Metallica - Through The Never

Four more sleeps...and did we mention that we were there. F@#$ing epic!

Barracuda Surf Boards

The craftsmen over at Barracuda Surf make some truly amazing wave slaying weapons. They shape and little something for everyone, but specialize in wave riding machines for the hardcore Canadian West Coast cold water surfer. For the price, you'd be crazy to buy a mass-produced board off the rack when you can get a beautiful to-order job for roughly the same price or less. You can see and learn more here.

Oskar Humidifier

Summer came crashing to a halt this last week...in our neighbourhood anyways. Out came the winter duvet, and closed went most of the windows in the house. And with that shuttering of the premises, it is just a matter of time before the air in this place becomes drier than a nuns (      ). Humidify we must, and humidify we will, but the standard humidifiers from the usual suspects offered at Walmart just aren't going to cut it, as we refuse to befoul the home with substandard crap. We choose the Oskar Humidifier, which sports Apple-esque design and a functional package. In addition to an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry, there is even a fragrance dispenser. You can see and learn more here.

Outlier Merino/Co Pivot Shirt

The one to travel the world in. The mystical performance of ultrafine merino, the grounded structure of organic cotton and the subtle freedom of a Pivot Sleeve combine to create what just might be the last shirt you ever need. Things like odour and wrinkle resistance, temperature regulation and breathability all sound like things we would want on our next long haul vacation. You can see and learn more here.

Heyward Howkins - Nogales

This guy just keeps getting better with every release. The above track is catchy as all-get-out, and we must admit that we had it on repeat last night. Such a butter smooth and soulful voice, a talent for lyrics, and a catchy flow; he has us moving. The song is by our Philadelphia friend Heyward Howkins, and we think his new album, titled Hey Frank, Furness, is going to do big things. Please visit him here, and pre-order yourself a copy.

Stacking Peak Rings

Back in July we posted about Parisian jewellery designers Ag.Jc and their beautifully minimalist peak ring which we loved and thought it might be nice to buy in multiples to achieve a stacked look....turns out they were thinking the same thing.  Lucky for us they've debuted some fantastic stacked rings among their other offerings which are embodied by a pure aesthetic that we can't get enough of. Check out the collection here.

Fine Car Art Work by Ricardo Santos

We love every single illustration by Ricardo Santos; capturing racing icons past and present in a slick retro-vibed simplicity that would look great in nearly every home. We posted the one above because...well...Porsche, but we posted a few others after the jump. We can't really decide, so we think we'll get a few. You can see them all and order yours here.

Home Is Where You Park It by Foster Huntington

Here is a very cool Kickstarter; one that for us, friends of the van lifestyle having owned a VW Westfalia for years, is very special. Home Is Where You Park It is a photo-based coffee table book full of pictures that started life as the Instagram tag #vanlife. Those who have never owned or travelled by camper van may not understand, as van owners love their vans more than almost anything. Foster explains that very accurately and concisely, in that the vans are not the end-all-be-all, but rather the enablers of a certain freedom and lifestyle. Check out the Kickstarter page here, as in addition to the book, Foster is flogging some cool stickers and even a t-shirt.

Trailer - The Salt Trail

Here's a beautiful trailer for a self-funded travel/surf film by Mark Waters. The film, which looks to be beautifully wrought, explores the idea of liberating ones soul through travel and surf.

Nikon 1 AW1

Nikon has just dropped the worlds first waterproof camera with interchangeable lenses. It looks stunning, and takes equally stunning photos...and from a depth of 15 meters (nearly 50 feet). It can also withstand a fall from 2 meters. Pretty amazing stuff. Head over to Nikon to see and learn more.

Said The Whale - I Love You

Off of their great new album titled "Hawaii," which is widely available wherever they sell good music.

Nike Sportswear Fall/Winter 2013 SneakerBoot Collection

Nike Sportswear has dropped some fall/winter variations of their current line-up, and we are loving the colourways and style variations. For us it's a three way tie between the AF1 Duck Boot, Air Max 90 SneakerBoot, and the Nike Lunar LDV SneakerBoot. They'll be available through select nike retailers in early October.

Elvis Costello & The Roots - Walk Us Uptown

How f@#$ing cool is this. Rock legend Elvis Costello and hip-hop icons The Roots get together and lay down an album together. This makes us so happy we can't even begin to put words to it. Weird personal anecdote to this story: maybe three years ago we were watching Jimmy Fallon and Elvis was the musical guest. He played with The Roots as his backing band, and they were wickedly tight together...so tight one would have though they had been playing together for years. Elvis's High Fidelity has literally never sounded better. So...two days later we are in line with our daughter at Whole Foods in West Van, and waiting in line immediately adjacent to us is Elvis. Usually not being prone to gushing, we couldn't help ourselves and comment on how good the Jimmy Fallon show was, adding that him and The Roots went together like peas and carrots. He agreed, we talked music and The Roots for a bit while he doted over our infant daughter. He was super cool, and he turned a fan into a super fan. I'm happy to see that a few years later he still thinks The Roots are the shit...enough so that an album was a no brainer.

Uniform Wares 351 Series

We love us some Uniform Wares. Their minimalistic approach to the wrist watch has us salivating, and we don't generally wear watches. We have yet to see a timepiece from them we don't like, and we feel that their latest 351 Series watch continues that trend. You can see and learn more here.

Cold Bruer

If you want to partake in the latest craze sweeping the nation, that craze being cold brew coffee, but aren't really interested in the premiums being sought to be on the forefront of both coffee trends and technology...them brother and sister, do we have something for you. How's $50 for a cold brew coffee device so that you can make the sweet nectar of the warm day gods all on your own? Bless you smart people and Kickstarter. You can see and learn more here.

Giant Miffy Lamp

Miffy is a childhood icon in the Netherlands. Everytime we go and spend a day or two in Amsterdam, it is incumbent upon us to bring something Miffy home for our daughter. It may be too big to squeeze into the overhead, but the giant Miffy lamp just may be our next purchase. You can see and learn more here.

Blind Melon - Change

Here's an oldie but a goodie. Often forgotten and overlooked when referring to the iconic bands of the 90's, Blind Melon cemented their legendary status by their debut album going quadruple platinum, and having the bee girl from the No Rain video take the world by storm. Taking into account and good sophomore effort and the overdose and death of Shannon Hoon, their lead singer, they will forever be firmly rooted in the last great gasp of the music industry; that being the 90's grunge/rock sceene. Change is, in our humble opinion, one of the top tracks on the record, tied with I Wonder and Sleepyhouse. We're sure it is in you old dusty CD bin somewhere, and we encourage you to dig it out and give it a listen.

Warby Parker Fall 2013

If you're not hip to Warby Parker yet, we don't know what to do for you. We're not going to explain the premise again other than saying that it is a great price for glasses and a nice charitable thing to do. For Fall 2013, they continue to raid the retro trunk, as is evident with the slick as f@#$ marbled sandstone polarized Ellison shades above. You can go here to see and learn more.

Speed Kills Your Pocketbook

Chris Thompson is our new hero. This guy took an argument that we make nearly everyday that we drive, took it to the next level and basically is presenting an irrefutable argument that most speed limits are too low, and that it is intentional means of generating additional revenue under the guise of public safety. Not give anything away, but increasing speed limits will actually save lives. Please watch the above...this affects nearly everyone, whether you drive, ride as a passenger or take the bus. And Chris, we're practically neighbours...drop us an email as we'd like to meet you and buy you a cup of coffee.

MGMT - Your Life Is A Lie

Off of MGMT's forthcoming self-titled release. Incidentally, the entire album is available for streaming over on Rdio. In a recent Rolling Stone article, one in which the writer described the album as their most experimental yet, band member Andrew VanWyngarden stated that he wasn't sure if it was music that they would actually listen to, but what was coming out of them at the moment. We're not sure if that is a good endorsement or a bad one.

Death Wish Coffee Vahalla Java Odinforce Blend

Put down that Red Bull and chuck out that Rock Star...they taste like a baboons taint anyways. Coffee is what you want. Already a better energy drink than any of the candy coloured purveyors of poison, coffee is the sophisticates energy drink of choice. Case in point,  Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde uses coffee for the power he needs to be the blistering guitar god that he is. However, not content with any old brew, Zakk has teamed up with Death Wish Coffee to bring you a new blend with maximum flavour and caffeine content. Forged from the volcanic soils of Indonesia and the nutrient rich soils of central and south America, this masterful artisan roast has carefully crafted to not only taste good, but deliver a chemical free and harmful additive free boost that you need with none of the science talk mumbo jumbo. Just straight up coffee. You can see and learn more here.

The Desk Caddy

How about a stylish storage system made from reclaimed timber for Philadelphia homes in the 1800's? Coming in medium, large and epic, every caddy is an individual, hand rubbed in a natural tung oil for a durable and waterproof finish. Organize that desk like an ol' school boss already. You can see and learn more here.

Marshall Stanmore Bluetooth Speaker

There's Bluetooth speakers and then there's Bluetooth speakers. You can go the future/mod look like the Jawbone Jambox, or you can go the route above....that being a Bluetooth speaker that not only resembles a Marshall guitar amp, but is made by Marshall as well. The answer, good enough for Slash, good enough for you.

Trailer - True Detective

What do they put in the water over at HBO headquarters. Seriously...how can one network keep making one kickass series after another. It defies logic, especially when we watch the major networks constantly trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator and rehashing All In The Family remakes over and over again...except with science nerds, or two gay dads, or immigrant stepmoms, or William Shatner...you get the idea. This trailer just blew our minds, and we can't freakin' wait for January.

Nike Free Run Trail Hyperfeel

Nike has dropped some new kicks for the autumn running season and we have chosen the Nike Free Run Trail Hyperfeel as our personal have, mostly for it's unusual fashion forward design and equally unusual colourway. You can find this shoe, and the other fall trail run releases at select Nike purveyors.

Trailer - Gravity

Holy shit!!! This trailer for the new Bullock and Clooney film is one of, if not the most intense trailer we have ever seen. Looks like it'll be one of the non-stop thrill rides that the dude who narrates trailers always warns us about. Out October 4th.

Harmon Kardon Onyx

Harmon Kardon is finally wading into the wireless speaker craze with a brilliantly crafted and designed speaker the sports a plethora of connection options; from Bluetooth, to DNLA, and Airplay. Sound should be sufficiently good and booming thanks to the pair of aluminum passive radiators, two 4" woofers and two 2" tweeters. You can see and learn more here.

Trailer (Red Band) - Neighbors

This is a red band (NSFW) sneak peek at the new Seth Rogen vehicle, and it looks freakin' hilarious...and the premise itself should prove to be a real driver of funny moments. Out early next summer.

Birth School Metallica Death - The Biography (Volume 1)

Because Metallica...that's why. And this is only volume one. There is that much story that this iconic rock band, née metal band, has to pack it into two volumes. We can't wait...but we'll have to, for a bit at least. Out in hardcover format and digital download on the 5th of November.

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know

Off of their impending release titled AM, scheduled to drop everywhere on next week, that being September 9th. This track kicks a tonne of ass without being too pushy about it. It sneaks up on you.

Restoration Hardware Hammered Steel Riveted Flatware

We know...flatware is not exciting and probably the last thing you'd want to shop for. However, it is literally something that you use everyday...and like we've said countless times, it's the details that matter, and flatware is one of the details. We like the hand forged feel and iron age appearance of the flatware set pictured above...and you could do a whole 8 piece place setting for well under $300. You can see and learn more here.

Bruce by Peter Ames Carlin

We originally covered the release of this bio nearly a year ago. We bought it, we read it, and we loved it. To summarize; Bruce is the first authorized biography of the music legend in over 25 years, the its author was given unprecedented access to not only the icon himself, but those that work with him and know him best. The reason for the re-post you ask? It is out September 17th in paperback form, at fine book stores everywhere. You reward for reading this is the following below post...you're welcome.

Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire

Because Bruce Springsteen...that's why.

Trailer - 1

We loves ourselves some Formula 1. In fact, a trip to Monaco for the Grand Prix is a bucket list item for us. We came of age during the trials of Ayrton Senna vs. Alain Prost, and we have never been able to shake the desire to drive an F1 car, even though we are zeroing in on our 40's. Racing back then was dangerous, but it was nothing compared to the glory days of the sport with names like Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansel, and Niki Lauda behind the wheel. Back in there days, you were literally taking your life into your hands for the sake of sport. This documentary tells the tale of F1, focusing on how drivers, sick of watching friends injured or killed, took a stand against F1's governing body to demand better safety standards in the face of ever increasing speeds. The film will be available for download on October 1st.

Patagonia Legacy Collection

Patagonia is the last great outdoor company. They have never sold out, or diluted the brand, and have stayed true to making gear for the outdoor enthusiast; be it climbing, camping, surfing or fly fishing. As part of their 40th anniversary year, powers that be, including founder Yves Chouinard, dig back through their catalogues of yore, and release a modern line inspired by brand classics. As good as new ideas and designs can be, often times it was done right early on, and this collection proves that. You can see and learn more here.

Everlane Leather

Everlane started as a fashion company that wanted to make luxury clothing items at transparent (code for affordable and fair) prices. Last fall they had great cashmere, and don't get us started on the quality of their t-shirts. This autumn they are launching a leather goods line, with wallets (see above pic), suede weekender and an Italian tote. No word on pricing, but fair to say that their quality will be matched by the deal you'll be getting. You can see and learn more here.
